Gallery: German vehicle conversions

Warlord Games’ own Peter Wright has been hard at work converting three German vehicles for his own collection. We’ve persuaded Peter to tell us what he did in each case. Over to you Peter!

Sd.Kfz 251/1 ausf C Hanomag

I removed the moulded on tools and replaced them with scratch-built examples.  I added width indicators, front light covers, night light and drilled out the exhaust and gun barrels. I also added camouflage netting on the outside of the halftrack.

Inside I added grab rails, instrument panel, radio and stowage in the inside bins using parts from the German infantry sprue plus bedrolls and other pieces sculpted from Green Stuff.

Sd.Kfz 234/1 armoured car

The conversion was done prior to our release of the Bolt Action Sd.Kfz 234/1 model – I couldn’t wait! My conversion was built using the Sd.Kfz 234/4 Puma hull and a turret from the Sd.Kfz 250/9 halftrack.

I added a tarpaulin on the turret from green stuff and a second radio point on the hull. Period photograph of this 8-wheeled armoured cars show very litte external stowage so I’ve added very little to my model..

Hetzer tank destroyer

My Hetzer has been rushed back into action after running repairs following battle damage – namely one of the road wheels. A section of the schürzen side skirts has also been blown off  by enemy fire. It was quite a regular sight to see partial schürzen on vehicles as they sustained damage from enemy fire of from getting too close to buildings, trees and other obstacles.

Due to the rush to get back into action, the repairs have not been repainted, being left in red oxide. The main gun barrel has been replaced and is still in the grey heat resistant paint put on in the factory.
