Neil at Troop of Shewe has been a busy man – following on from the German armour we showed off in last week’s newsletter are these German halftracks. Please try not to drool on your keyboard…

The first vehicle to make it’s way off Neil’s painting desk is the Unic P107 halftrack. As the German forces that over ran France and the Low Countries were short of armoured personnel carriers such as the Sd.Kfz 251 halftracks, 21. Panzerdivision’s Major Alfred Becker devised a plan to convert the wide variety of captured French materiel to suit the Wehrmacht’s needs. Amongst these were the Unic P107 tractors. The addition of armour plates and a liberal sprinkling of MG34s and the German army could travel into action in style…

The Sd.Kfz 251/10 Schützenpanzerwagen mounts a 3.7cm Pak 36 anti-tank gun atop the Hanomag halftrack. These were generally platoon leader vehicles, adding fire support to the columns of speeding halftracks.

Flame on! The Sd.Kfz 251.16 Flammpanzerwagen is a serious terror weapon. Armed with two pintle-mounted flamethrowers and more liquid fire than you would think decent, this halftrack is not what Allied troops wanted to se heading their way. The Sd.Kfz 251/16 is also equipped with a portable flamethrower, just to make sure!

With 6 of these halftracks assigned to each regiment there’s no excuse not to paint one of your own. You can add this flamethrowing beast to your army here. Of course, if you’re feeling particularly nasty you could order three and save 10% of the price…

The Sd.Kfz 251/9 mounts the 7.5cm Stummel (Stump) gun on the Hanomag body. This low velocity infantry gun provided the German infantry with good fire support, either pounding enemy positions are taking out light vehicles.
